Statement
My work stems from observing patterns and phenomena in the environments I encounter. I reflect on contemporary issues, especially anthropocentrism through the lens of liminality, and examine how human activity intersects with the natural world. My impulse to create and capture are driven by my sentimentality and hyper-awareness of transience.
I am drawn to process-based and historic processes within photography and printmaking due to their tactile and meditative nature. I lean towards film photography because it teaches me how to be in our current climate. Due to its analogue nature, it compels me to be more intentional about and connect more with what I capture. It helps me resist expectations of mass production and automation I see prevalent around me. As a result, I have a greater emotional connection to the images I get back from the lab which comes from a place of patience and care.
Biography
(b. Abu Dhabi, 2003) I am an interdisciplinary visual artist who is currently completing my BFA in Visual Arts at Zayed University, Abu Dhabi, UAE. I work with various mediums, including analogue photography, printmaking, and painting. My practice centers on experimental image-making, with a focus on alternative photographic processes and material research. My work reflects on contemporary issues and observes how human activity intersects with the natural world.
